An early investment in energy loss detection will translate to significant savings in future energy bills. Residential Energy Solutions (RES), a division of Beaton Construction LLC, offers the most comprehensive residential and commercial energy audits in Massachusetts on the market today.
Our years of construction and engineering experience, coupled with the use of the best infrared and blower door technology makes Beaton Construction’s Residential Energy Solutions division the leader in building performance analysis.
Our Energy Audits
A typical RES audit consists of infrared imaging, blower door testing, visual inspection, review of utility bills and a written report. The goal of our audits is to educate homeowners on how they can save money on utility bills. We sit down with the homeowner and review utility bills, discuss living habits within the dwelling and explain ways to reduce energy usage in the home. We educate homeowners on improvements they can make to their home to improve building performance and offer performance enhancement services through our construction division of Beaton Construction. Unlike visual inspections offered by utility companies and other "energy auditors", our building diagnostics provide tangible evidence of how homeowners can reduce energy use at home. We study each home as a dynamic system and not only address the individual anomalies in building performance but also analyze the dynamic effect of those issues as a whole. Our construction and engineering experience, coupled with our use of the best available technology, makes us the leader in building performance analysis.
Why Perform An Energy Audit?
Energy audits identify areas in homes where energy losses are occurring. They aim to increase the comfort of the home, reduce energy consumption, and identify potential health and safety concerns. An audit will look at movements of heat, air, and moisture through buildings.
Based on energy cost projections, an early investment in energy loss detection will translate to significant savings in future energy bills.
Energy Audit Overview
Our energy audit includes a preliminary discussion with you relative to your concerns, how your home is affected by the weather (drafts, leaks, water/ice damage) and an opportunity for you to hear about what some of the common issues are that we find and how we typically address them. This overview will explain some of the building science issues that lead to the typical issues that we find.
We will then undertake a comprehensive thermo-graphic infrared building scan. Infrared technology allows RES to identify areas of inadequate insulation and weather sealing along with air leaks throughout the building envelope that would otherwise go undetected through visual inspection alone. A blower door is used to supplement infrared imaging in detecting and calculating the size of air leaks in the building envelope. In addition, a visual inspection is performed to identify construction flaws in the structure. Finally, a written report is generated within 7-10 days which outlines the findings of the field investigations and suggests improvements that can be made to improve building performance. We can also provide an estimate to undertake the work necessary to carry out our recommended improvements.

Our Services
Beaton Construction’s Residential Energy Solutions (RES) division offers a full range of weatherization and energy efficiency services. Our professionals are trained and certified in the latest techniques and building science behind energy loss in homes. We work with both homeowners and other builders/contractors on existing homes and new residential construction. We can explain to you how a home’s thermal boundary is defined and work with you to slow or restrict the flow of heat loss through your home’s building shell by suggesting weatherization and insulation improvements. We can also insulate new homes being constructed.
Our team of professionals offers the following services:
- Minimally invasive investigative techniques to identify existing insulation levels
- Removing existing insulation that is no longer effective, wet or moldy
- Installing new insulating or increasing the existing insulation levels ( interior and/or exterior walls, attics, basements) with a full range of insulation products
- Air sealing rim joists, electrical and plumbing penetrations, and other gaps that cause air to leak in and out of conditioned spaces in your home
- Weather-stripping and caulking/sealing doors and windows
- Installing bath fans, attic hatches, water-pipe wrap
- Infrared imaging to locate the origins of moisture problems in a structure. Infrared technology is an invaluable tool in identifying moisture problems in areas that are typically difficult to locate without invasive demolition to a problem area. RES has saved homeowners thousands of dollars in demolition and repair by finding the location of water infiltration without having to lift a hammer!
Your home is generally your greatest asset. Let us help you identify and fix those areas that can save you money on your energy bills and allow you to keep more "gr$$n" in your pocket!
